As a Disability Support Worker providing Community Participation and In Home Support, you'll help customers:
- Participate in swimming sessions
- Swim alongside the customer during sessions of approximately 40 laps
- Participate in boxing and other active pursuits
- Enjoy shopping and community activities
- Build cooking and everyday living skills
- Improve confidence using computers and technology
- Maintain independence through agreed in-home support
- Complete activities using calm, predictable and reassuring support
The ability to enter the pool and participate in sustained lap swimming is an inherent requirement of this particular assignment. We use a therapeutic, person-centred approach that focuses on strengths, capability building and helping people achieve their full potential. We're Looking For People Who Are ✅ Competent and confident swimmers
✅ Physically capable of sustained lap swimming ✅ Calm, patient and reassuring communicators ✅ Confident supporting persons who may experience high anxiety ✅ Reliable and accountable ✅ Able to respond calmly when someone becomes anxious or distressed ✅ Comfortable adapting their approach to individual communication needs ✅ Active, encouraging and focused on building independence ✅ Looking for a career, not just another job Experience in disability support, mental health, youth work, health, education, fitness, swimming instruction, sport or community services will be highly regarded. You'll Need
- Demonstrated swimming competence
- Willingness and physical ability to swim alongside a customer for approximately 40 laps
- Experience or demonstrated capability supporting someone who may experience anxiety
- Current Driver Licence
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to communicate clearly, calmly and effectively in spoken and written English
